THE SECRET DIARY OF FRUSTRATED WRITER #31

Day 1:

Had awesome SF idea while sitting thru boring seminar. Should make kickass story. Hmm. Might need character to go with idea, though. Like Scarlett, will think about that tomorrow.

Day 2:

Design character. M/F? Um. F. Age? Um. 35. Occupation? Um. Lessee. Corporate executive sounds like fun. Blitzed off first scene. Should write second scene, but need to go run errands and weed garden.

Day 3:

Scene two almost done. What happens next? Crap. Can't come up with anything. Stupid character all wrong. Re-design. Protag now 20 year old gay male traffic cop. Should make new start on story, but need to vacuum and dust house and go grocery shopping.

Day 4:

Re-wrote first two scenes. No idea how to end the story. Hope brain comes up with something. Am taking evening off and going to movies.

Day 5:

Wrote a whopping 137 words. First two scenes look even stupider than last night's stupid $7.00 movie. Writing will need lots of revisions. Still stuck on ending, and cool idea is looking not all that cool. Bleh. Will think about it after dealing with stupid plumber.

Day 6:

Cool idea is totally stupid. Waste of time. Waste of paper. Screw writing. Will go watch Dallas re-runs and eat potato chips instead.

[much, much later....]

Day 72:

Had cool idea while sitting in boring seminar. Realized that combined with previous cool idea that turned out to be stupid, may make an interesting story. Need new protag that is neither female executive nor male cop.

Day 73:

Actually did some thinking and plotting and outlining rather than jumping into writing story. Might just have a winner here. Feeling good about whole story in general.

Day 74:

Tried first scene. Ideas combined are still looking cool. But probably can 't write well enough to do justice to story. Anyhow, need to call someone about getting hot water tank. Writing will have to wait till later.

Day 75:

Read new issues of Analog and 3SF. Story idea is up to par with pro stuff, but writing style isn't. Can't compete with likes of Sully or J Kelly. In fact, can't write for toffee. No way could write story well enough to pull off cool ideas. Screw writing. Will go watch TV instead...
